Texas Instruments Biomedical Engineering and Science Building
A cutting-edge science and technology learning environment was designed to spark a new wave of growth and innovation.
The Texas Instruments Biomedical Engineering and Sciences (BMES) Building opened in fall 2023, creating a new hub for training future innovators and advancing medical breakthroughs that improve patient care. UT Southwestern, UT Dallas and Texas Instruments collaborated to create a space that will challenge the sharpest minds across the globe. The new engineering and science building was designed to build a new innovative educational environment for research that will unlock new levels of discovery.
Made possible by a transformative gift from Texas Instruments (TI), support from additional donors, and investment from the UT System’s Permanent University Fund, the $120 million facility spans five stories and 150,000 square feet on UT Southwestern’s east campus.
Designed to fuel collaborative discovery, the building includes both wet and dry laboratory spaces, dedicated areas for multidisciplinary work, and a Biodesign Center equipped with a large assembly and design studio, a metal fabrication shop, and rooms for 3D printing. Every laboratory space was intentionally designed to promote collaboration and strengthen teamwork among researchers.
