Texas Behavioral Health Center
In partnership with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), UT Southwestern spearheaded the planning, design, and construction of the nearly 505,000-square-foot hospital—an essential cornerstone of the state’s comprehensive strategy to expand and strengthen inpatient psychiatric services across Texas.
The new facility features eight specialized inpatient units—one medical psychiatric, one dual diagnosis, one forensic, two mood disorder, and three psychotic units—along with unit-based occupational therapy and rehabilitation programs, administrative offices, and dedicated dining and living spaces. Supporting all inpatient units are a wide range of shared adjunctive therapy programs and environments, including multipurpose therapy spaces for music, art, and horticulture, physical education areas, a shared community dining space, outdoor gardens and courtyards, a chapel, and dedicated life-skills therapy areas.
